Serene’s Journey Through Motherhood: The Woman I’m Becoming:
In this heartfelt sharing, Serene Koh opens up about her journey into motherhood. From navigating postpartum challenges and finding her identity again, to learning to embrace imperfection, accept support and grow alongside her son. She reflects on how motherhood has reshaped her understanding of strength, taught her resilience and self-compassion, and inspired her to continue pursuing her passions while creating meaningful memories with her family. Through her story, Serene hopes to remind other mothers that motherhood does not mean losing who you are, but becoming a new version of yourself with love, intention and grace.
HER Voice
Motherhood has honestly been the most rewarding and challenging journey of my life. Before becoming a mum, I was very career-focused and used to planning and being in control. Having my son completely changed my perspective on what really matters.
The transition wasn’t always easy. I had to learn to balance caring for a newborn while still navigating my own recovery and identity. There were moments of exhaustion, self-doubt, and figuring things out as I went, but every stage has taught me something new.
Today, my son is almost two years old, I’m still breastfeeding, and motherhood has made me more patient, resilient, and intentional. It’s also inspired the content that I am creating. I love sharing the real, everyday moments of parenting, along with things that have genuinely helped me, in hopes that other mums feel a little less alone on their own journey.

HER Story
One of the hardest seasons for me was the postpartum period. You're healing physically, adjusting emotionally, and suddenly responsible for a tiny human who depends on you for everything. The sleepless nights, breastfeeding, and recovering postpartum all happened at the same time. I remember feeling exhausted and questioning whether I was doing enough as a first-time mum.
Before becoming a mum, I was very career-focused and used to planning and being in control. Work and content creation were a big part of who I was. I could plan my days around myself, and I valued being able to set my own direction and see things through the way I intended.
Then I had my son, and everything I thought I knew about control quietly rearranged itself.
I still carry that part of me, the part that loves working and creating. For a while I struggled with balancing motherhood while still wanting to pursue my career and personal goals. It took time before I realised I didn't have to choose between being a good mum and pursuing my own passions. I could grow into both.
Learning to adapt to a completely new identity was the most challenging part. Overnight, my priorities shifted, and I had to accept that I couldn't do everything the way I used to. On top of that, I was navigating the pressure to "bounce back" — whether it was physically, professionally, or socially.
What helped things begin to feel different was my husband. He reminded me that parenting is a partnership, not something I had to shoulder alone. Whether it was taking over baby duties so I could rest, encouraging me when I felt exhausted, or simply being there to listen, his support made me feel seen and understood. It changed the way I experienced motherhood, because I realised that asking for and accepting help isn't a weakness. It's a part of building a strong family together.
That season taught me to be kinder to myself, ask for help when I needed it, and celebrate the small wins instead of chasing perfection.More recently, losing my Instagram account was another difficult transition. It felt like losing years of work overnight while juggling motherhood. But it reminded me that my value isn't tied to a follower count. It pushed me to start again with a clearer purpose, and to show my community that setbacks don't have to define your story.

HER Growth
Motherhood didn't just make me stronger. It redefined what strength means to me. It's not about doing everything on your own. It means staying calm even when life is unpredictable, giving myself grace instead of chasing perfection, and remembering that I don’t have to do it all alone. To me, strength isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being present, resilient, and creating a home where my son feels loved and secure.
It also made me more intentional. I became more conscious of the environment I wanted to create, the values I wanted to model, and how I managed my time. I realised that children learn more from what we do than what we say.
What I'm most proud of is that I stayed calm throughout the journey. A lot of people around me would say, "You're so chill," and I think that's because I chose to focus on finding solutions instead of dwelling on the challenges. Of course I had difficult days and moments of self-doubt, but I tried not to let those moments define my experience.
Life today is busy, a little chaotic, but so much fun. My husband and I love travelling, and one of the biggest joys has been bringing our son along on those adventures. People often ask if travelling with a toddler is difficult, and while it definitely comes with more snacks, more luggage, and more planning, seeing him discover new places makes it all worth it. He's almost two now, and I'm still breastfeeding. What brings me the most peace today is simply being with my family. Whether we’re travelling together, enjoying a quiet day at home, or laughing over the little things, those moments remind me what’s truly important. I also find joy in creating content and connecting with other mums, because it turns my own experiences into something that can hopefully encourage someone else. I’ve learned to appreciate the simple moments, and those have become the most meaningful ones.
Alongside that, I'm rebuilding my content creation with a clearer sense of purpose than before. I love sharing the real, everyday moments of parenting, along with things that have genuinely helped me, in hopes that other mums feel a little less alone on their own journey. As a first-time mum, there were so many questions and uncertainties, and having people I could turn to for reliable advice gave me confidence. That's what I want to offer back.
I also wish more mums had both emotional and practical support. Having people who listen, encourage, and reassure you is just as important as help with daily responsibilities. What makes me feel safe is authenticity and kindness, and a community where mums can be honest about both the beautiful moments and the challenging ones, without fear of judgment or agenda. No mum should ever feel like she has to do it all alone. Being able to connect with other mums who understand your experiences helps you feel seen, reassured, and less alone. Sometimes it’s not about getting the perfect advice it’s simply knowing that someone else has walked the same path and come through it.

A Message for Mothers
Her Voice. Her Story. Her Growth.
To any mother reading this: it's okay not to have everything figured out. Give yourself the same kindness and grace that you so freely give your child. Don't compare your journey to anyone else's, because every mother is doing the best she can with what she has. Accept help when it's offered, celebrate the small victories, and remember that your child doesn't need a perfect mum. They need a loving one. And if today feels hard, know that you're stronger than you think, and tomorrow is a new day.
Don't be afraid to embrace life after becoming a mum. You can still travel, pursue your passions, grow in your career, and create beautiful memories with your family. Motherhood doesn't mean the end of who you are. It becomes a new part of who you are. So if you’re in a challenging season right now, know that you’re not alone. Be kind to yourself, lean on the people who love you, and trust that you’re doing better than you think. One day, what would you hope your children understand about your journey?
One day, I hope my son understands that everything I did came from a place of love. I may not have always gotten everything right, but every decision I made was because I wanted the very best for him. Most of all, I hope he remembers a childhood filled with love, laughter, and a home where he always felt safe, supported, and accepted. If that's what he remembers, then I know I've done something right.
