HER Voice
When I first became a mother, I imagined that the journey would feel joyful.
Instead, I found myself overwhelmed.
The early months of motherhood were incredibly difficult. I was navigating postpartum depression while living in an environment that often left me feeling emotionally exhausted and unsupported. Every day felt heavy.
I remember holding my daughter close while tears streamed down my face, and she would cry with me.
Looking back now, those moments still break my heart.
As a first-time mum, I carried the invisible mental load almost entirely on my own. I was constantly thinking about feeding schedules, nutrition, developmental milestones, naps, communication, and everything my little girl needed to thrive.
I wanted to give her the very best.
But inside, I was struggling to keep myself afloat.
At the time, I also found myself living through difficult family dynamics that added to my emotional burden. It took time before my husband truly understood how much those circumstances were affecting my mental health. It wasn't until we eventually moved into our own home that life slowly began to feel lighter.

HER Story
Postpartum depression affected far more than my emotions. It affected the way I see myself.
There were days when getting out of bed felt impossible. I struggled to find motivation to care for myself. I questioned my worth constantly and found myself comparing my life to other women who seemed to have everything together.
I kept wondering why motherhood felt so much harder for me.
One of the biggest lessons I eventually learned was that comparison only steals your confidence.
Every family has a different journey, and every mother carries burdens that others may never see.
Throughout those difficult years, there were moments when I felt completely alone.
I often found myself thinking,
"In the end, I'm still facing all of this by myself."
Yet even during those darkest days, another thought stayed with me.
"My little girl won't stay this small forever."
That reminder became my motivation to keep going.
I wanted to create beautiful memories with her, even when life felt incredibly difficult.

HER Growth
One person who made a profound difference in my healing journey was my husband's grandmother. She never expected perfection from me. Instead, she reminded me that making mistakes was okay. Those simple words became something I desperately needed to hear. Slowly, I began learning to see myself through my own eyes instead of through the opinions of others.
For so long, I had allowed criticism to shape how I viewed myself. Over time, I realised that other people's words did not define my abilities, my worth, or the kind of mother I was becoming.
Looking back, I am most proud that I eventually stood up for myself. I realised that my parents had raised me with love, and I owed it to myself not to spend my life living in unhappiness. Motherhood has made me stronger than I ever imagined.
Even on the days when I feel completely exhausted, my daughter continues to remind me why I keep moving forward.
Her milk, her bath, her naps, her laughter, her growth; every little need reminds me that love often looks like showing up, even when you're running on empty.
Today, being a strong mum means becoming the pillar my family can lean on. It means finding the courage to pursue my own goals while creating a safe and loving home for my daughter. It means choosing resilience, again and again.
Life today feels different. My husband has grown to better understand and respect my feelings, and together we're raising a daughter who fills our home with laughter. Like every family, we still have our imperfect moments, but we've learned to find joy in the little things. Those moments remind me that life is too short to remain trapped in frustration and negativity.
If I could speak to another mother walking a similar road, I would simply say this:
This season is temporary. Don't be afraid to look for solutions that protect your peace. Stand firm in what you know is right for yourself and your family. It may feel impossible now, but life can become brighter. One day, I hope my daughter understands that every difficult decision I made came from a place of love.
I hope she learns to choose wisely, protect her own peace, and never allow anyone else's negativity to define who she is.
