HER Voice

Hi, I’m Candice—a mum to two lively daughters, Arielle and Alyssa, with a passion for creativity, dance, and all things culinary. I juggle life as a science tutor and a dance studio owner, while learning to embrace the beauty of the in-between moments. Arielle, my eldest who is 6 this year, was named by my husband as it has always been his favourite, while Alyssa, now 4, got her name through a fun little family voting game. My decision to have children was rooted in a desire to honour tradition and build a complete, fulfilling family. I never quite imagined how all-consuming motherhood would be in those early years, but I’ve come to realise that with every sacrifice comes something meaningful—my children have taught me some of life’s most important truths.

HER Story

My journey into motherhood began with a desire to honour tradition and build a complete, fulfilling family—though nothing could have fully prepared me for how deeply it would transform my life in those early years. Even with a background in primary school education and experience working with children, I’ve come to realise that parenthood is truly “on-the-job training,” filled with constant learning and unexpected moments.

Much of what I knew about pregnancy and childbirth came from hearing others’ stories, and that proved true when my own experiences turned out so differently—my first birth was an unplanned C-section, while my second was a natural delivery. Along the way, I learned to let go of rigid expectations, trust my instincts, and seek out the right support for my journey.

One of the more difficult parts of motherhood for me has been how deeply it challenges you from within. Parenthood has a way of bringing up your own triggers, emotions, and even unresolved childhood experiences. There were moments I felt overwhelmed, stretched, and rediscovering myself all over again while trying to show up fully for my children. It’s a journey that requires not just patience for your little ones, but also compassion for yourself—learning, unlearning, and healing along the way.

At the same time, it has been incredibly meaningful. Growing alongside my husband as we learn to co-parent with intention has strengthened our relationship and helped us guide our children with strong values. And through all the ups and downs, it’s the unconditional love—and beautiful chaos—that makes it all worthwhile. With the support and inspiration from my community and fellow parents, I continue to stay open, grounded, and committed to becoming a better parent each day.

HER Growth

Do what makes you feel alive!
This is a reminder to stay connected to yourself amidst the demands of parenthood. By making space for the little things that bring you joy and fulfillment, you can show up more present and grounded for your family, while also supporting one another as a community.

What is your personal motto?

Do you have any word of advice for other parents who are starting their own families?

I love to relax by dancing, getting in a solid workout, or cooking—these are my go-to ways to decompress after a busy day.

How do you care for yourself now?

One piece of advice for new mums is to build a strong foundation of trust and understanding with your husband. Open communication, shared responsibilities, and supporting each other through challenges will help you grow as a team and create a loving, stable environment for your child.
